Life is amazing...

My family went to the "Body Worlds 3" exhibit this weekend. It was amazing but not worth what we paid... I took some little kids with us and they were so excited to see the skeleton and all the parts that make our bodies work. They even had an exhibit of a grown camel and a newborn baby camel -- one of the kids liked that part the best. My husband was most impressed by the nervous system and how it was all linked together.

My favorite part was the section of the exhibit that showed various fetuses in different stages of development. As early as a few weeks into pregnancy, these little guys had all their parts -- fingers, toes, knee caps, ears, you name it and it was there. I felt an almost reverent, yet overwhelmingly sad feeling because all of these babies seemed so perfect yet didn't get the chance to survive.

To anyone who questions whether this show is designed for little children? I completely recommend it. The youngest one in our group was six-years-old and it opened a new realm of understanding and curiosity about the world we live in. We explained (numerous times) before taking the little kids in that this is a normal part of our body -- that everyone has a skeleton, muscles, etc., and that there was nothing to be afraid of. One of the most significant parts that the almost-nine-year old left with: the difference between a smoker's black lung and a completely healthy one. I think at least one kid left with the promise that they will never smoke a cigarette.

And to answer my brother's question: No, it didn't smell like science class. :)
